Acupuncture Treatment

Pre-sterilized, single use, disposable acupuncture needles

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points in the body. Oriental medicine has used this method for thousands of years to balance Yin and Yang in the body and aid healing. The theory behind traditional Chinese Medicine revolves around Qi, Xue (blood) and essential substances (Jing) in the body. Acupuncturists undergo extensive training typically spanning years. I use only pre-sterilized, single use, disposable needles.

Initial Consultations take approx. 1-1.5 hours. Follow up treatments typically last one hour.

Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture, also known as cosmetic acupuncture or facial rejuvenation, is an extension of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory. Facial acupuncture involves more than just inserting needles along furrows and wrinkles and practitioners should be qualified in Chinese Medicine. It helps with skin health and skin conditions and is carried out using Chinese Medical theory.

Treatments last approx 1.5 hours and a course of treatments is recommended.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy used to treat various conditions in the body. Moxa itself is a herb (Mugwort – also commonly found in Europe) that is treated and dried for a number of years. It is used because of its slow burning and gentle heat properties. In Chinese theory, it combats stagnation, dampness and coldness in the body. Moxa can be used to heat a point in various way – attached to the top of a needle, using a ‘stick’ of Moxa, using moxa contained in a box that is strapped to the body or applied carefully to the skin with a thin protective element underneath. It can be used alone but commonly it is used in combination with acupuncture.

Initial Consultations take approx. 1-1.5 hours. Follow up treatments typically last one hour.

Cupping

Cupping involves the placement of cups at points on the body. Cups are used to dispel stagnation and increase flow in the area. Cups create a vacuum over the skin and draws up the flesh into the cup. I use fire cupping with glass cups. These are typically left in place anywhere from five to twenty minutes depending on the strength of the ‘vacuum’ in the cup. Please be aware that cupping treatment will leave circular marks on the skin which could take 1-2 weeks to fade.

Initial Consultations take approx. 1-1.5 hours. Follow up treatments typically last one hour.

Tuina

Tuina is a form of Chinese physical massage. It translates as ‘to push’ (Tui) and ‘to grasp’ (Na). Although the techniques of Tuina may be similar to other physio and massage treatments, Tui-na is rooted in traditional Chinese Medicine and uses the theory of acupuncture points and meridians in its treatment. It is used for both external and internal conditions, diagnosed used Traditional Chinese Medicine theory. Tuina is used for all types of external injuries such as sprains, pulled muscles, weak joints along with internal conditions.

As a member of the Acupuncture Council of Ireland, major health Insurers may cover some of the fees. Check with your healthcare provider for details on how to claim.
